Frequently asked questions
What is linear feet in LTL freight?
Linear feet (or 'linear footage') measures how much of a 53ft trailer's length your shipment occupies, regardless of how tall or heavy it is. Many carriers apply a linear-foot rule surcharge once a shipment exceeds a set number of feet, since it blocks other freight from loading behind it.
How do you calculate linear feet for pallets?
Divide the trailer into rows across its width. If your pallets fit two across, divide the pallet count by two (rounding up) to get the number of rows, then multiply by the pallet's length in feet.
